Newly elected President, State High School Alimosho Old Students Association, Mrs Batshua Tosin Yoseph has called on the old students of the school to rise in unison to intervene on the urgent infrastructural need of their Alma Mata.
Mrs Joseph, formally known as Miss Tosin Fagbohun, while speaking with the members of the press shortly after her inauguration as president, said this year’s get-together was particularly held in the school premises to offer all members the opportunity of seeing the poor state of the school that gave them so much in the past.
Juliana, who left the school in 95/96 academic session, said she would not find the task ahead uphill because was the past Vice President of the association, “My being the President now is continuity, I’m not new to the association. I have been looking forward to helping the students. I particularly made sure that today’s reunion is held within the school premises.
“We use the opportunity to go round the school and see the state of its facilities most of which are in poor state of disrepair. Some of the alumni of the school who came here today have left the school 40 years ago, some 35 years ago. Since they have left some have not stepped in to this premises. So they don’t know the state of the school, coming here provides everybody the opportunity to see the condition of the school.”
She noted that upon moving round the school they could identified some critical points the library, laboratories among others where their intervention would benefit the school “Everybody has agreed to give their support to ensure the move is a success,” adding that a stronger central union, no more the old students association of this set or that set.”
“We will be working to see that everybody is actively involved in the planned intervention. This will help in raising the needed fund to execute the project. We plan to intervene in the shortage of classrooms, make the library conducive for research, the laboratories well equipped and provide more furniture for the school. We will set reputable platforms for pick indigent but brilliant students for scholarship awards,” she stated.
Corroborating the position of the President, Mr Ofure Thomas, a Fellow of chartered accountant of Nigeria, said “We will go for aggressive membership drive, we have members that have spread across the world here in Nigeria and in the diaspora. We will galvanize all the old students across various sets to let them know that there is now a central body for them to join,” while promising to deploy his wealth of experience help the association achieve new milestone.
Founded in 2005, State High School Old Students Association, Ofure noted that “We need membership strength, financially committed members, he added that the “beauty of today inauguration is that it is help in the school premises” which gave them the opportunity of seeing the school current state of the school.
While urging all members to use their influence to ensure infrastructural turnaround for the school, Ofure noted that “Every touch-point is calling for attention. So we need to rise up. This is a government school, but we cannot leave everything to government.
“That is why we that have passed through this school as a body needs to rise up to use all our intellectual ability, our financial ability and wide range of connection within the industries to bring financial attentions to the school. We need to address the pressing need of this school,” he said.
