Street sweepers under the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) have completed a month-long skills acquisition programme in bakery, bead making, and fashion design.
This was part of the second phase of the Glo Foundation–LAWMA SkillsBridge initiative.
The programme, which ran from June 16 to July 10, 2025, aimed to provide alternative livelihood opportunities for sweepers, empowering them beyond their sanitation duties.
The graduation ceremony is set for July 17 at the Glo Innovation Hub.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegeshin, described the initiative as a crucial step toward improving the lives of sweepers and giving them a sustainable means of income.
“LAWMA sweepers participating in the second phase of the @GloWorld Foundation–LAWMA SkillsBridge programme showcased their work in bakery, bead making, and fashion design, following a month-long intensive training.
“The initiative, which ran from June 16 to July 10, 2025, is a skills acquisition programme aimed at equipping street sweepers with sustainable livelihood opportunities beyond their sanitation duties.
“The graduation ceremony is scheduled for July 17, 2025, at the Glo Innovation Hub.
“This collaborative effort between the Glo Foundation and LAWMA underscores a shared commitment to economic empowerment, workforce development, and dignity of labour,” he wrote on X on Tuesday.
Gbadegeshin commended the Glo Foundation for its support, noting that the collaboration reflected a shared goal of promoting workforce development and restoring dignity to labour.
The initiative served as a model for inclusive development, aligning with LAWMA’s mission of environmental sustainability and social upliftment.
