Two separate accidents that occurred at the Ibafo and Car Park-C sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday left one person killed while seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Spokesperson for the Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, on Monday, said that the accident occurred after a vehicle gutted fire due to fuel leakage.
She said, “It was a lone crash. Eight people were involved, two were injured and one was killed.
“The vehicle had a fuel leakage. There was a spark that led to the fire and the leaking fuel enhanced the fire that engulfed the vehicle.
“The FRSC operatives from Ibafo were on the ground to contain the fire with fire extinguishers before the arrival of the Fire Service.”
The second accident at the turning located at Car Park C occurred after a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number KTN 741 YX rammed into a Ford car that was waiting for a truck to make a turn.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed that the Hiace bus was travelling at an excessive speed before colliding with the Ford car leading to a multi-vehicle collision.
He added that 23 people were involved in the crash, while five people sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rescued at a nearby hospital.
“A serious RTA at Car Park C outbound Lagos involving one Howo Truck (RBC 865 XU), one Ford Car (RBC 432 XH) and one Toyota Hiace Bus (KTN 741 YX).
“According to an eyewitness, the driver of the Ford car was patiently waiting for the Sino Truck to make a turn while the Hiace Bus reportedly drove at an excessive speed and lost control. In the process, the Hiace bus hits the Ford car from the rear.23 people were involved, with five people sustaining injuries.
“TRACE, Amótekun, FRSC and police were on the ground monitoring the traffic situation while the accidental vehicles were towed to The Redeemed Police station for further investigation. However, some victims were transported to a nearby hospital before our arrival, while some of the occupants of the vehicles boarded another bus to their destinations,” Akinbiyi said.
