Taiwo Adekunle Korodo, has openly declared his fondness for the King of Fuji, KWAM I, the incontrovertible Oluaye Fuji as his role model, his godfather and his ‘comfort zone’.
Taiwo Korodo, an Abeokuta, Ogun State, born musician, doing hip-hop and Fuji music a live-band mastery that got the audience calling for encour especialy his dexterous grasp of KI’s iconic style in the Fuji Kingdom.
The National Diplomal (ND) in Accounting and Finance from the Federal Polytechnic, Ire, Osun State, said he picked special interest in KI right from a very tender age, and that the fondness keeps growing over the years, noting that his soft spot for KI’s famous brand of Fuji was never influenced by Wasiu Ayinde nor anybody else.
To the Lagos based sensational singer, KI shaped Fuji music to a music brand acceptable to both the downtown and the uptown, that carved a ‘comfort zone’ for every other Fuji singer that rose to the limelight after him.
Taiwo told our correspondent in an exclusive interview that “I do Hip Hop and I do Fuji music. I do my stuff in the way my godfather, KI De Ultimate, doesn it; and happy to be part of him because he is a real legend.”
He added that he had had an opportunity to be with King Wasiu Ayinde live on stage before as he added that he would love to meet his self-acclaimed mentor and role model again, saying that “I have been able to be with KI on stage one-one, and I sang his numbers and he was amazed. I will like to do that again to let him know that we are very much around, and that we can do it the he is doing the Fuji music too.”
Adekunle added that if anybody picks argument about the kingship of KI De Ultimate that the person merely does so on personal ground and not because he doesn’t merit the position.
“If there is anybody that doesn’t like KI as the incontrovertible Fuji King, I think it depends on that person’s personal decision and conclusion. To me, KI is someone that really knows what he wants and he does so with respect. He respects himself, and he doesn’t allow people to see him finish (seefinish is popular Yoruba urban slang meaning excessive exposure of private life in public place). So if you are the kind of people that doesn’t want people to see you finish, you will always protect your personality, but they will judge you and see you as a contversial somebody.”
He noted that “KI did not bribe me to fall in love with him and his music. Since when I was very young I have developed that keen interest in the songs of my grandfather, Late Dr Sikiru Ayinde Barrister. After Barrister it is KI De Ultimate. If I want to mimic or do it like him, I always get it right. I just love him, because he deserves the love. He made Fuji what it is today. He did not bribe me in any way to love him.”
He concluded that KI would forever be his number one cheerleader, saying that “When tomorrow comes and I make it big in the music industry too, KI will still remain my father, my role model and mentor, because KI is my ‘comfort zone’.”
