Property worth millions of naira was destroyed in a fire at Anibaba Road, inward Iyana School in the Iyana Iba area of Lagos State.
It was learnt that the fire started in the early hours, and also said to have engulfed a bungalow which had 10 rooms and two shops in it.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Damilola Oke-Osanyitolu, who confirmed the incident later in the day, stated that the agency received a distress call at about 6:44 am.
The LASEMA boss further disclosed that, although the cause of the fire had yet to be determined, no life was lost in the inferno.
“The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, in response to distress calls via 767 / 112 Toll-Free lines at 0644hrs, activated the Dolphin Response Team from Igando Base. On arrival of the Response Team at the incident scene by 0708hrs, LRT discovered a bungalow comprising 10 rooms and two shops, engulfed by fire.
“Preliminary investigations by the Dolphin Response Team are ongoing and the cause of the fire is yet to be revealed as of the time of writing this report. But fortunately, no casualties or deaths were recorded, although household properties worth millions were lost to the inferno.”
He also highlighted household property destroyed to include furniture, electronics, and vital documents.
He added that a physical examination revealed partial structural damage to adjacent buildings.
According to him, investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, adding that the fire had been curtailed.
The response effort was led by the LASEMA Response Team from Igando Base (Dolphin Team) and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service under the supervision of the LASEMA boss.
It was also reported that a fire incident occurred on a small section of the Lagos Blue Line track at a spot opposite the NEPA Station, near the Eko Bridge, in the Apogbon area of Lagos State.
According to a post by Gboyega Akosile, the spokesman for the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on his X.com handle @gboyegakosile, the incident occurred at 4:12 p.m. on Saturday.
Akosile also stated that no casualties were reported and that there was no train service at the time of the incident.
